Many people have little or no understanding regarding pro-life issues and many people are too afraid to spread the awareness of abortion. There is such a little amount of people who are fighting to stop abortion that I feel as if it is almost hopeless; therefore people who do care about the issue are simply just pushing it aside because they feel as if they are wasting their time because the matter will not be addressed anyway.. But this is not true. I believe that there is much hope regarding the abortion issue in Canada. It only takes a few people to start coming out and spreading the awareness and helping other people who are uneducated on the subject and helping them realize that there needs to be a change.

In January 2010, I travelled from Canada to Washington D.C. to attend the National March for Life. It was truly an amazing experience. I was able to walk alongside approximately 400.000 people who all want to fight to end abortion. I believe this was the most eye-opening experience and it truly made me realize that there is hope, knowing there are many other people who also are fighting to attain the same goal as I am. I got to hear from many different speakers and their stories that led them to want to fight against abortion. I heard a letter hand-written by the Pope giving inspiration to all the people who were at the March for Life. I have also been attending the March for Life in Ottawa for the past four years with 7,000 people. It is much less than the number of people in Washington, but the numbers have been growing each year which shows hope.

I learned about abortion and being pro-life through my mother who was sixteen when she had an abortion. She was a wreck the following years after the abortion and then came to find God. She now speaks on Parliament Hill in front of the 7,000 people in Ottawa at the March for Life. She has also spoken at the March for Life in Washington in front of 400,000 people. She as gone into many Catholic high schools surrounding the area to give her testimony and to try to raise awareness to end abortion. She is part of an organization called “Silent No More Awareness Campaign”. She has given me the most hope. She puts so much time and effort into her work as the President of the Pro-Life group in Cornwall where I live and she has dedicated her time helping women who have had or are debating having an abortion. She once gave her testimony to a class and there was a pregnant mother in the class who was scheduled to have an abortion, but after my mother gave her testimony to the class the young mother decided to keep the baby and invited my mother to come and meet the new-born child in the hospital when he was born. That shows me hope knowing that one person is able to change the mind of an uncertain woman who was never told the real story of abortion and how it affects you in the long run.

My mother and my experiences have led me to want to also help. In saying that, I am the Vice-President of my school’s pro-life group. I have been involved with it since last year when it began and I am going to carry it on next year and hopefully pass it on to someone else so that the awareness will continue to be spread to young people who are unaware of this issue. There are three school buses that leave Cornwall to travel to the March for Life in Ottawa and the number of buses has increased over the years which is an amazing thing. It shows that more people are going to learn and experience what I have and I hope they are able to see if from a whole new perspective.

Abortion is a sad thing. My family was affected by abortion, which also lead to my mother having four miscarriages. People are unaware that women who have an abortion may never be able to have a child or they may have a very difficult time in doing so. People do not know that there are between 30.000 to 50,000 unborn babies aborted per year in Ontario alone and are paid for by Canadian citizens through our taxes. In saying this, Ontario tax payers alone pay $30-$50 million dollars annually for abortions. There are so many things that the people are sheltered from. It is not right that people are paying for young women who are in trouble, to receive an abortion. These young women do not know what they are getting into with an abortion. They rely solely on the doctor who tells them that it’s 100% safe and they will be fine the next day. The only thing the doctors leave out is that they may be physically fine but mentally they will never be the same. They may not even be physically fine. They may never be able to conceive again because a doctor told them it was the right thing to do.

Abortion is a terrible thing and I wish that everyone could see that. People need to start standing up against abortion to help put a stop to it. One person can make a difference and I’ve witnessed it. Abortion is killing. “A person is a person, not matter how small.” –Dr. Seuss. This quote gives me hope. It is true a person is still a person inside the womb. Women are lead to believe that it is only a blob of tissue and not yet a living child. But they are wrong. It is a beautiful child, a living, breathing human being. I am pro-life and I believe that there is much hope regarding the abortion issue in Canada! Thank you.

Our Respect for Life team would like to thank Prolife Cornwall for allowing Theresa Gilbert, President of the National Campus Life Network from Toronto, to present to our student population on April 12. Theresa really put into focus the idea of what it means to be prolife and our duty to promote and protect all people from conception to the moment of natural death.

The Holy Trinity Respect for Life team is preparing our school for the annual March for Life in Ottawa on May 10th. Each year our school has a bus load of students to attend this event in support of the dignity of life. We will be participating in the March and then listening to the witness talks of the group Silent No More before returning to school.

We are also looking at sending more students this year to the Prolife Youth Conference the day after the March. Students are fundraising in our school by selling our prolife bracelets and our “Precious Feet” pins which are a replica of a 10 week old unborn babies feet. The various colours are quite nice to complement any attire. Buy yours today for $2.00 each. Profits will offset the cost of the conference to allow more students to attend. If you would like to purchase any pins or help with donations please contact the Chaplaincy Leader, Gordie Van Putten. Thank you for your continued support in the dignity of life!

Everyone is invited to join Pro-Life Cornwall Pro-Vie to take part in the March for Life in Ottawa on Thurs. May 10th. A bus will leave the Walmart South parking lot at 8:00 A.M.  We will make a stop in the parking lot of St. Andrews church at about 8:15 and a stop in Monkland (at the old Mary’s Restaurant) at about 8:30.  We will attend Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.  The bus will leave promptly at 4:00 PM in front of Parliament Hill.  Bring a lunch and good walking shoes.  There is no charge for this trip.  We have only one bus, so be advised to make a reservation in advance.   Call the office and leave a message at 613.937.0536 or call Joan at 613.931.2087.

Greetings to all,
I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying the sun- drenched days of summer.
I would like to report that the 2011 National March for Life in Ottawa was a huge success, attaining a record- breaking attendance estimated at 15,000 pro-life citizens from across Canada. These people, young and old, came to demand legal protection for children who are still in the womb.

Campaign Life Coalition organizes the annual march to mark the day in 1969 when Pierre Trudeau’s Omnibus bill broadened the abortion law and effectively legalized abortion-on-demand. Organizers estimate that 80 per cent of those who took part this year were under 25.

After the march, a group of men and women from Silent No More Awareness spoke about the physical, emotional and spiritual aftermath of their abortion experience with the hope that others would not make the same mistake.
I spoke out about my abortion experience for the 8th year in a row and this year something very special happened for me. Not only did my 15 year old daughter attend for the second year in a row but my 13 year old son also came in support of his Mom. My son told me afterwards that listening to me tell my story brought tears to his eyes and filled him with compassion. I am so very proud of both my children for taking an interest in this important issue.

I am writing this message to you after our annual general meeting and Walk for Life that was held today, that is June 12th . There were 27 of us, who gathered to walk and I was grateful for those who took time out of their busy schedules to participate. At the same time, however I was saddened that more people did not come out to show their support for the protection of the unborn.

Sometimes you question if what you are doing will make a difference. As I was surfing the internet in search of a quote about summer, I came across one that en- couraged me: “Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” Reading this gave me hope that what we do today, big or small, is signifi- cant and will have an effect in the future. I also came across another quote that Pope John Paul II said about being involved in the pro-life cause: “ You must bring this pro- life, pro-family movement all over the earth; and if you do that, you will be doing the most important work on earth.”

As a pro-life organization we have accomplished many things over the past year and it was possible because of ongoing support from you, our faithful and dedicated members. I wish to thank you for your support and I encourage you to continue to be involved in this most important work.
Have a safe and happy summer.

Sincerely,

Dale Barr
